Supporting Every Student's Success in Science
Dr. Ijezie's 7th Grade Science Class
π Our Approach to Accommodations
In Dr. Ijezie's science classroom, we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to explore, discover, and excel in science. Accommodations are not about lowering standardsβthey're about removing barriers so all students can demonstrate their true potential and engage meaningfully with scientific content.
"Accommodations level the playing field. They don't change what students learn, but how they access and demonstrate their learning."

βοΈ How Accommodations Work in Practice
1. Identification and Documentation
Students with accommodations are identified through IEP, 504 plans, or informal assessment. All documentation is kept confidential and shared only with relevant educational team members.
2. Implementation Planning
I work with the student, parents, and support team to understand specific needs and plan implementation. This includes discussing which accommodations will be most beneficial and when to use them.
3. Daily Implementation
Accommodations are seamlessly integrated into daily instruction. Students learn to self-advocate for their needs, and I regularly check in to ensure accommodations are working effectively.
4. Ongoing Monitoring and Adjustment
Accommodations are regularly reviewed and adjusted based on student progress, changing needs, and feedback from students and families. The goal is always maximum independence and success.

- Communicate with me if something isn't working or if you need help
- Learn to advocate for yourself and your needs
- Remember that using accommodations doesn't mean you're "different"βit means you're smart about learning
- Focus on your growth and progress, not comparing yourself to others
- Ask questions and be curiousβscience is for everyone!
π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ For Parents
- Stay in communication about what's working at home vs. school
- Encourage your child to use their accommodations without shame
- Celebrate progress and effort, not just final grades
- Contact me if you have concerns or questions
- Help your child understand their learning profile and strengths
- Support their growing independence and self-advocacy skills
π Requesting or Modifying Accommodations
If you believe your child would benefit from accommodations or if current accommodations need to be modified, here's how to start the process:
Contact Me First
Let's discuss your concerns and what you're observing. Often, informal accommodations can be implemented immediately.
Connect with School Counselors
For formal accommodations, the counseling team will guide you through the 504 or IEP process.
Documentation and Evaluation
The team will determine what documentation or evaluation is needed to support the accommodation request.
Implementation and Monitoring
Once approved, accommodations will be implemented and regularly reviewed for effectiveness.
