Using Your Notes on an Assessment

Dr. Ijezie’s STEM Studio

Some assessments let you bring your own notes. That only works if you connect your note to the right class and get it approved ahead of time. Here is exactly how that works.

The Short Version

  1. Connect the note. In the note editor, open Connect to class and choose your course and module. Add a topic (and a lesson, if you have one) so the note can be matched precisely.
  2. Request approval. Tap Request assessment-use approval. The note is now pending review.
  3. Wait for the decision. Dr. Ijezie approves, declines (with a reason), or asks you to revise.
  4. Use it on assessment day. If the assessment allows notes, a 📓 My Notes button appears. Open it to read your approved notes without leaving the assessment.
You are responsible for connecting your notes and requesting approval BEFORE assessment day. Nothing is tagged automatically, and approvals are not granted during an assessment. A note that was never connected, or whose request was never sent, will not appear — no exceptions on the day of.

What “Approved” Actually Means

When a note is approved, a frozen copy of it is saved as of that moment. That copy — not your live note — is what shows up during an assessment.

Why Tagging Matters

An assessment carries its own tag — course, module, and sometimes a topic and lesson. On assessment day the system shows you only the approved notes that match that tag:

Quick FAQ

Do all assessments allow notes?
No. Notes are off by default. If the 📓 My Notes button isn’t there, notes are not permitted on that assessment.
Can I request approval for every note I own?
Yes, as long as each one is connected to a course and module. Approval is decided note by note.
I edited my note after it was approved. Now what?
Your approved copy is unchanged and still valid. Request approval again if you want the newer version on file.
Can I withdraw a request?
Yes — while it is still pending. Tap Withdraw request, revise, then request again.
My note was declined. Is that permanent?
No. Read the reason, fix it, and request again.
Can I see another scholar’s notes?
Never. You only ever see notes you wrote and that were approved for you.
How late can I request approval?
Before assessment day — and earlier is safer, since every request has to be read by a human. Requests sent the morning of an assessment may not be reviewed in time.
