Ascent Calculator

AscentCalculatorOS — MathPrint display, every 2nd and ALPHA function, working MATH and MODE menus, handheld entry rules (Ans, ENTRY, repeat-ENTER, STO→), and a Desmos workspace when a teacher allows it.

A full-color graphing studio. Keep the familiar handheld on the left — or work on the big interactive board: type functions live, drag parameter sliders and watch the family of curves animate, pan, zoom, and trace with your mouse, overlay a derivative, area, or tangent line, and read a function's roots, intercepts, and turning points at a glance.

Choose your workspace

Start with the familiar calculator. Open Graph Studio when you need a larger editable graph, functions, sliders, or analysis.

Practice on the handheld you use in class — your choice is remembered on this device. This is an independent STEM Studio tool; the layouts resemble familiar calculators but are not affiliated with their makers.

Examples and keyboard tips

These handheld layouts use the Ascent practice engine. TI-89 and Nspire CAS symbolic calculations require teacher access outside assessments. Handheld labs teach the physical device menus.

Keyboard works too: type numbers & operators, x for the variable, Enter to evaluate, arrows to trace.

Functions

Type any function — it graphs as you go. Click the swatch to recolor, the eye to hide, ✕ to clear. Use a letter like a, k, b and a slider appears below.

Function insight

How to use it
  • On the right: type functions, drag sliders, then read the insight card. On the device: press Y=, type, then GRAPH.
  • X,θ,n is the variable, ^ powers, x² squares. Functions: sin cos tan, log (base 10), ln, abs(), sqrt(), π, e.
  • Board: drag to pan, scroll to zoom toward the cursor, double-click to frame curves. Trace snaps to a curve; Point drops a labeled coordinate.
  • Sliders: any single letter (not x) becomes an animatable parameter — great for seeing how a in a·x² reshapes the parabola.
  • 2nd → CALC on the device finds zeros, intersections, minima & maxima; 2nd → TABLE opens a value table.

Master the Calculator

Pick your course. Each guided lesson runs on the calculator above: the lesson card says what to press and why, the next key glows, and a quick check makes sure the answer is right. Your own lists and functions are put back when you finish. Lessons use the TI-84 Plus CE keypad, or the TI-84 Evo keypad when you choose TI-84 Evo above.

Using a real TI-84 or TI-Nspire CX II? Handheld Calculator Labs has key-by-key labs for every course, the Battery Drain Lab, and tips for getting the most out of your model.
